Collective Protection and Access

COLLECTIVE PROTECTION
Collective Protective Equipment (CPE) are aimed at safeguarding people's health and safety. The use of CPE should be seen as a priority with respect to the the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There are different types of product, according to the needs of the construction site.

ACCESSES
The term "access" identifies a point, that can be reached via a path allowing the safe transfer of one or more operators, materials and tools to the roofing. We offer a variety of devices that can meet every need of civil and industrial construction sites.

Product Features

TEMPORARY PROTECTION NETS
They protect workers from falling from heights during repair and installation work in sites. They offer freedom of movement and, in case of a fall, the impact is absorbed. Two different types exist, Type S (horizontal) and Type U (vertical). Compliant with standard EN 1263-1.

PERMANENT RAILING BARRIERS
Permanent roof protections protect everyone who climbs on roofs from falls. Workers can move freely without PPE when permanent railings are installed. Compliant with standards EN 14122-3 and EN 13374. A class protection.

SKYLIGHT NETS
They protect workers from falling inside the building and are permanently mounted.

TEMPORARY RAILING BARRIERS
Temporary protections that prevent falls from heights during repair and installation work. Compliant with standard 13374.

VERTICAL ANCHOR LINE
Vertical fall protection system that allows workers to access the roof, making all types of ladders, electrical pylons and cranes safe, in compliance with EN 3531:2014. Used to safely climb up and down the ladder. Thanks to the numerous accessories, the anchor line can be installed at any point on the ladder; installation is simple and may be performed by a single worker.

OVERPASS WALKWAY
Walkways that allow creating safety paths suitable for installation on fragile roofs. The non-slip coating provides safe footing. Made of aluminium, they resist mechanical stress, corrosion and weather. Overpass stairs are designed to adapt to any type of installation; assembly is simple and easy.

LADDERS AND LADDERS HOOKS
Used in industrial applications as they are permanently fixed and fitted with protective cages. Made of aluminium, they resist corrosion and are ergonomically designed. The standard modules are designed to allow the ladders to be installed in any situation. Accompanied by a vast array of accessories, they are designed in accordance with the provisions of Art. 113 of Italian Leg. D. 09/04/2008 n. 81 "Consolidating Act" and are also available based on EN 14122-4.

WALKWAYS
Fully adaptable, they are designed to make passes on fragile, slippery, and non-walkable roofing safe, or to overcome obstacles. Equipped with regulatory railing barriers and toe-boards, they allow the transit of non-specialised operators with no need for using appropriate PPE. Made of aluminium, they resist mechanical stress, corrosion and weather. The elements of the walkways are designed to adapt to any type of installation; assembly is simple and easy.

Mobile Man Anchor

Mobile Man Anchors are a temporary solution for locations where it is not possible to permanently fit either Collective Edge or Personal Fall Protection.

Man anchor utilises a central pedestal to provide total fall protection for a single worker for fall arrest or two workers in restraint if they remain at least 1000mm away from the fall hazard. It is designed for use with personal protection equipment, such as a harness and lanyard.

For use on all roof surfaces, including single-ply membrane, asphalt, concrete, stone chippings (brushed) and mineral felt. Man anchors features base weights fully encased in rubber moulding to prevent the pads from peeling at the edges.

The man anchor system is very quick and easy to assemble, utilising a minimum of loose components, and does not penetrate the roof surface or require any structural attachments.

When required in a location where it’s not viable to fit Guardrail, Hanson’s Systems Mobile Man Anchor provides an easy, cost effective solution, without compromise to safety.

Rope Access Dead weight Trolley Systems

Hanson’s Rope Access Dead Weight Trolley Systems provide an adaptable, flexible and cost-effective alternative to fixed suspended abseil access systems such as davit arms. This ensures that the system is suitable for buildings and projects with irregular façade maintenance requirements.

The dead weight trolley is an effective system for enabling rope access cleaning and maintenance on listed buildings as it is portable and does not need to be permanently fixed to the roof. This standalone unit offers a non-destructive alternative to a davit arm system – the installation of which would require the roofs’ structure to be penetrated and the building’s exterior envelope aesthetics to be altered.

The system is particularly effective when a parapet wall features as part of the building’s structure (not including Collective Edge Protection systems). The temporary dead weight trolleys can be adjusted to the height of the wall, ensuring that the top bar is just higher than the copings – 450mm minimum and 1,200mm maximum upstands.

Each component of the system weighs no more than 25kg, meaning it is easy to assemble and manoeuver to different access points on the roof. It is also ideal for working in confined spaces.

This system has been approved by IRATA in line with the trade association’s International Code of Practice.

The miles of piping and pipe racks associated with the petrochemical industry expose refinery workers to fall hazards when adequate fall protection is not in place. Oil and gas refineries are in need of constant repair, maintenance, painting, and pipe re-routing. Most of this work is done at heights, with few or no structural elements overhead from which to install fall protection. Some sections of pipe rack may expose workers to a fall hazard during maintenance, and yet, these same sections of pipe might be visited once every ten years.

As someone concerned with safety for an oil and gas refinery, how do you balance OSHA compliance and protection of maintenance personnel with the need to provide cost effective fall protection covering an enormous length of exposed pipe?

The systems we develop are designed with all these variables in mind. Additionally, we never lose site of user-friendliness as a major consideration to enable free access while ensuring safety compliance.

In addition to pipe racks, HANSON will address the fall hazards associated with rail siding, truck tanks, and pits found in refinery settings. HANSON engineers will work with you to develop a comprehensive fall protection plan for your refinery. Working together, we will identify and prioritize high risk areas where falls are likely to occur. After this process is complete, HANSON will recommend and install OSHA compliant fall protection solutions that will keep your facility, and more importantly, your workers safe.

For more information on our fall protection solutions for pipe racks, contact our fall safety experts.

Multi Span horizontal lifeline systems When other means of eliminating the need to access pipe rack have been exhausted, Multi Span horizontal lifeline systems can be design to protect those workers who must access the pipe rack. Factors such as heat, tight spaces, unstable and slippery walking surfaces, often increase the risk of falling. Top of rack lifelines will often have support stanchions to raise the level of the lifeline to shoulder height to reduce fall distances and minimize impact with obstructions below the work level. In-rack lifelines often attach to the existing pipe rack structure.

Whenever possible we will design a solution that allows the lifeline supporting brackets to clamp to the pipe rack structure. This eliminates the need for hot work permits and speeds up the installation process. Installing a permanent horizontal lifeline in a pipe rack is one of the more challenging installations we face. Our team of trained and certified technicians and project engineers will develop a safe work plan to ensure the protection of our employees while working at your facility.

Fall Arest Eye Bolts

Fall Arrest Eye Bolts are a critical element of any Façade Access system, used extensively alongside other solutions such as Davit Arms and abseiling anchors.

Hanson supply a comprehensive range of Fall Arrest Eye Bolts. These systems are available in fixed, removable and reusable formats and are suitable for use with brick, concrete and cavity walls.

Eye Bolts are an ideal personal fall protection solution for suspended Rope Access operatives. If a planned cleaning and maintenance strategy exists for the building, regular access will be required to the façade. Rope access is considered a popular solution to enable cleaning and maintenance on structures that incorporate difficult to reach areas. Abseiling also rarely incurs downtime when considering buildings with an operational requirement.

Eye Bolts can be fitted either internally or externally on the structure and can be utilised to offer an interim personal protection measure whilst the operative secures themselves to the primary system to perform the cleaning or maintenance procedure.

Not only do Hanson’s skilled technicians install these quality systems ,we also offer stringent compliance testing to ensure that the system conforms to regulatory standards.

Fixed Fall Arrest Eye Bolts and Roof Anchor Points can be used internally and externally for Work at Height and access purposes. They are the perfect solution for work positioning on inclined roofs or for window cleaning.

Hanson can also provide Removable and Reusable Fall Arrest Eye Bolts for more flexible, temporary purposes. These fittings can be covered to blend in with architecture and décor. This feature makes Removable Eye Bolts an ideal choice for prestigious buildings or those with distinctive designs which need to remain unspoiled.

Hanson’s Fall Arrest Eye Bolts come in Stainless Steel as standard and are available in a number of finishes.
